UPSEU Local 1222 filed a grievance in late February 2021 on behalf of a Newtown Bus Driver, as a result of the driver’s rate of pay not being increased in accordance with the employee’s first collective bargaining agreement.
It became abundantly clear to All-Star Transportation during the grievance meeting that the grievant’s rate of pay was inaccurate and it needed to be corrected. During further discussions, Nephty Cruz, UPSEU Labor Relations Representative continued to investigate whether our grievant was the only member impacted or if other drivers were not receiving the designated contractual rate of pay. In the end, All-Star Transportation admitted there were eight (8) bus drivers in total that were receiving an inaccurate rate of pay, which resulted in wage increases, including retroactive payments back to August 2020, to each of those impacted bus drivers to make them whole.
Chief Steward, Phyllis Page, and the impacted members were extremely pleased with the results and pay adjustments. Leora Washburn stated, “I received a separate and large paycheck, and initially thought it was an error in my paycheck. I was later told that it was owed to me as the result of the grievance that UPSEU filed and pursued on behalf of our membership. Thank you, Nephty and UPSEU for having our backs!”
