On November 24, 2020, the Newtown Bus Drivers nearly unanimously approved a Tentative Agreement for the drivers first union contract, which was reached between UPSEU Local 1222 and All-Star Transportation, LLC. The Agreement provided each of the drivers with job security through the Grievance and Arbitration Procedures, a Seniority Clause, and Safety & Health Provision. In addition, the Union secured above market wage increases in each year of the contract, paid Holidays and P.T.O Days (which the employees never had), a 401K Plan, Bereavement Leave and health insurance.
Chief Steward, Phyllis Page, was pleased with the results saying, “Thank you to UPSEU for making all this possible, especially the holidays and P.T.O days. The employees are excited to get wage increases retroactive to September 1, 2020.”
UPSEU’s Chief Negotiator and Regional Director, Matt Geer said, “I’d like to thank the negotiating committee (Phyllis, Lucie and Robert) for their leadership during this process. Their advocacy on behalf of the entire membership was paramount to our success.”
Nephty Cruz, Labor Relations Representative stated, “I’m pleased with the outcome and unity exhibited from such a close and dedicated group of employees. They are a group of drivers that are dedicated and unselfish.”
